Metastatic prostate cancer refers to cancer that has spread to other organs like bones, lungs, liver or non-regional lymph nodes. It is also referred to as stage 4 disease.

The uro-oncologist is the primary carer for patients with metastatic prostate cancer however this is a multi-disciplinary disease with close teamwork involving medical and radiation oncologists, cardiologists, physiotherapy and nutrition.
Stage 4 cancer is considered incurable however many men will have sustained responses to treatment for 3-5 years, sometimes longer.
Targeted therapy and radioligand treatments are being studied with great interest and show promise in this disease.
