Completed M.B.B.S. at the renowned B.J. Medical College Pune, one of the top medical colleges in Maharashtra, followed by 1-year of rotational internship at the 1500-bedded Sassoon General Hospital, Pune.
Trained in General Surgery at the highly acclaimed Seth G.S. Medical College and K.E.M. Hospital, Mumbai. About 50,000 surgeries are performed annually here affording tremendous exposure and surgical training par excellence.
Gold-medalist in M.Ch. Urology from the prestigious Christian Medical College, Vellore. This is the oldest department of Urology in India and has the distinction of performing the first successful renal transplant in the country in 1971. It is noted even today as one of the top urological institutes in India with high-quality urology education.
Dr. Venkat completed a fellowship in Uro-oncology and robotic surgery at the world renowned University of Miami Miller School of Medicine where about 800 robotic cases are performed annually. It is a highly sought after position with superb hands-on robotic experience.
Dr. Venkat has numerous national and international publications and presentations to his credit. He has been closely involved in the RAZOR (randomized open verusus robotic radical cystectomy) trial – the world’s first multicenter randomized trial comparing open to robotic surgery for any organ site which was published in The Lancet in 2018. He was also the primary investigator in a randomized trial comparing monopolar and bipolar resection of bladder tumors which was selected as the best paper at the Urological Society of India conference in 2013.
Dr. Venkat is presently a Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Miami and involved in research and publications with the department. He was also an Assistant Professor at Christian Medical College, Vellore in the department of Urology and Renal Transplantation.

Dr. Venkat undertook his uro-oncology and robotic surgery training at the prestigious
University of Miami Miller school of Medicine.
This is the premier university-based cancer referral center in South Florida.
The faculty includes 6 dedicated fellowship-trained urologic oncologists
who perform over 1000 major oncologic procedures annually, the majority being via a robotic approach.
The department has 4 Xi and 1 Si Da Vinci robots available for use across its various sites.
Dr. Venkat participated in over 800 robotic cancer procedures by the completion of his training.
Complex robotic procedures like radical prostatectomy, radical cystectomy
and urinary diversion, partial and radical nephrectomy were routinely performed at the hospital.
He also worked with benign robotic urologists and performed simple prostatectomies
and reconstructive surgery like pyeloplasty robotically.
Faculty of the department include world authorities in uro-oncology and robotic surgery
namely Dr. Dipen J Parekh, Dr. Mark Gonzalgo, Dr. Sanoj Punnen,
Dr. Chad Ritch and Dr. Ramgopal Satyanarayana.
The department also has one of the largest programs of MRI-guided fusion biopsy for
prostate cancer in the US, with over 1,500 procedures performed, and Dr. Venkat has
extensively trained in this procedure as well.
As Clinical Instructor of Urology, Dr. Venkat was responsible as a Consultant for urologic
clinics as well as staffing surgical cases and emergency coverage.
Dr. Venkat remains a Visiting Assistant Professor to the University of Miami maintaining close ties in teaching
and research with the department.
